Award-winning locally flavoured food & drink Tasting Tours
We want to share our love of Wellington County by pointing out the links between our rural food heritage and our growers and makers of today. This region has deep agricultural roots, so food – good, fresh, local food – comes naturally to us.
All of our experiences harness the power of storytelling. We aim to celebrate our regional heritage by uncovering the stories found within small towns and mid-sized cities via local flavour — offering the opportunity to learn some little-known lore of the area, and to hear directly from local food and drink purveyors themselves. Unique locales where you have to dig a bit deeper to unearth a true “taste of place”.
Mostly we want to facilitate connections. Connections made between these innovative restaurateurs, chefs, farmers, brewers, cheesemakers, bakers, and their use of the surrounding agriculture. Connections between each other too, by simply slowing down and breaking bread together. Something humans do all over the world.
We’re quite literally telling the stories of the people and the places through food and drink. Join us?
Have fun with Taste Detours on one of our recurring public tours. Savour a morning, an afternoon or evening by exploring the area with your Guide or engage with a unique experience for your group. We can also curate a half, full day or even weekend experience for you. Give us a shout at [email protected]. We are well seasoned Canadians, so we offer tours year-round!
How it works
Once you find a TOUR you like, the Booking button above will take you straight to our calendar, linking you to the EzTix booking site where you can easily purchase tickets for your chosen date. All you need is a healthy appetite and a good pair of walking shoes. The award-winning Taste Detours will visit local businesses where you’ll enjoy our regional cuisine and learn about the people behind the restaurants, pubs and specialty food shops. Along the way, your guide will share some little-known history of the area and point out cultural landmarks. So relax and enjoy our moveable feasts while we take care of the tab, the taxes, and the tips.
Step Bite Step
Why Detour? ˈdēto͝or/ noun
A long or roundabout route that is taken to visit somewhere along the way. A deviation of course.
We’re much closer than you think! Guelph is situated in the heart of Southern Ontario. We’re 100km from Toronto, 48km from Hamilton and only 145km to the U.S. border. We’re also practically next door to Waterloo Region, St. Jacobs, Elora & Fergus and Stratford. And we’re a mere 10-minute drive down the road from the Delta Hotel and the University of Guelph. Let Lynn put the downtown Guelph AND Elora taste experience into context for you.
